Tony Warnes is professor of social gerontology and director of the Sheffield Institute for Studies on Ageing. He has pursued research in the social demography of later life and older people’s residential choices since the 1970s. His interests in gerontology are multi-disciplinary and range from the humanities to the potential of genomic medicine. Tony Warnes was chair of the British Society of Gerontology during 1994-2000, and he is presently editor of Ageing and Society.
